Letters to Congress
On August 22nd, we sent letters to every member of Congress letting them know we would be coming to the Capitol to stand watch on September 4th. Below is the text of the letter sent to Senators.
Dear Senator,
We’ve had enough.
We’re tired of hearing “Just a little more time,” and “Wait until we try this new strategy,” and “We just don’t have the votes.” We’re tired of excuses. Every day that goes by without an end to this war means more dead Americans and more dead Iraqis. We’ve heard all the arguments about why we need to be patient, but we’re not buying it anymore.
Take a stand and do what you need to do today to end this war now.
We tried voting. We tried marches. We tried writing letters and making phone calls. Now we’re coming to the Senate chambers. Congress works for the nation, and Americans are not happy with your work. So we’re coming to watch over you and let you know that we’re done waiting for Congress to do its job.
On September 4th, we’ll be in the galleries. When you see us stand up, and stand watch over Congress, remember that the American people are paying attention, and if you won’t put an end to this war, they’ll find representatives who will.
Put an end to the Iraq war now.
Sincerely,
America Stands Watch
